Merry Christmas Everyone! - Friday, December 16, 2011
The end of 2011 is here and we celebrate our Family and Friends.
With the struggle to make ends meet, many people have found it hard to find the funds for extra activities. However, families need other activities and experiences to share. Support the ideals of teamwork and positive work ethics. We enjoy training hard at our school and supporting the efforts as each of us reach to our best potential.
Putting bread on the table must come first, and student academics must be dealt with.
I want to thank my staff. My staff of JJ Johnson, Jaime Johnson, Kayla Bordelon, Robb Pauline, Tim MacAlpine, David Pancarowicz, Curtis Davis, and my Junior Leaders have helped hold our business together through trying times.
Thank you, Master Sue.
New Students - Sunday, February 13, 2011
I have been very excited that so many new students have joined us in the last month. Continue to bring your friends in and share the excitement of active training and artful living.
Our adult class is now entering an exciting new phase as our new colored belts get to step into the sparring experience. I look forward to playing the game with you and exploring your strengths as we develop your sparring skills. Having so many join in the game at the same time is unusual. It will make the challenge much more fun to do it all together.
We will continue our modular teaching schedule for kids even though the end times are confusing for the parents, It’s a great thing when lo ranks and high ranks get time to work together and share their successes. Being on time for your lineup is key to being warmed up safely. Staying late is an option if your school responsibilities are taken care of.
I recently invited all ladies in the valley who train in any martial art to become part of a group I am starting. I want to create a networked group of Las Vegas ladies of martial arts that can share our skills with each other and also with the community and create an opportunity for ladies to learn serious self defense skills from women in a safe supportive environment. I had a successful first meeting with a dozen of the women Martial arts instructors from around the valley and look forward to our first workout together happening March 12th at Master Little’s Kenpo school. I’m very excited for these new possibilities.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my assistants, Mr. Pan, Mr. Davis, Mr. McAlpine, and Ms. Evanovich for stepping into their roles, welcoming our new members and assisting all the new students in learning the protocols of the school. I couldn’t do it as well without you. More importantly, I like having you around. Thank you, Master Sue.
The Upcoming Curriculum - Sunday, November 7, 2010
Our school has returned to the small and familiar style we enjoyed before Master Gitleman's school joined us for the summer. Congratulations NV TAEKWONDO on the opening of yor new location. We wish you the best of luck. We miss all the people and especially I miss the High rank leaders that trained so hard with us over the summer. I enjoyed your company and the skills I learned from you. However now you must take up the responsibility of growing your school, as was the plan from the beginning.
I am looking forward now to taking my students through their paces in smaller groups with more floor space. Having the space to play games. Having the ability to group us all together and work on cirriculum together. working forms as a group and having space and time to develop each student individually to his /her greatest potential. We are targeting the challenge of promotions on Nov 20th for those students who have developed their skills at their current rank and have fulfilled the attendance requirements.
Our student base is small and our attention includes what goes on with you in your daily life not just your time on the floor. We will be checking for approval from your parents before you are approved for testing on Nov 20th. Our push in the next 2 weeks will be reviewing the requirements for testing and strengthening your Cardio and conditioning using the moves of your current rank.
Check the schedule in case your class times have changed. When you are an LMT member you can log on to the members page and check your philosophy by entering your first initial and last name in the login screen.
Parents are invited to take class for only $50 a month until January. Take advantage now! Wednesday morning and Friday morning we have an adult class for those parents who have just dropped their kids off for school and have the opportunity to hit the gym before getting to work on your day. Take advantage. I look forward to training with you.
Fall Schedule - Wednesday, September 22, 2010
We have improved our schedule over the last summer to allow more cross over training between ranks. Our beginners come in at the beginning of every day and our higher ranks join usduring the workout schdule. Our really young students train on tuesdays and thursdays. This has created a greater opportunity for our high ranks to share their skills and complete the cycle of giving that creates a stronger universe.
I am so appreciative of the efforts our high ranks are making to assist the journey of the colored belts and create a bond that supports all our efforts to improve ourselves.
As the new school year begins remember that we are all on this journey together and it is more fun and safer to allow the bonds of freindship to increase your individual strength. Come train with each other and connect to the power of our Community.

Changing Up! - Wednesday, April 7, 2010
So things are changing. Society is changing. Parents are changing. The world may be different than what we perceive. In an effort to better serve you, my clients,I am eager to hear your feed back. Tell me what your concerns are and I can better put it in place. I have recently changed up some perspectives in my program. I have had several good discussions with parents of advanced students and have changed some accents on how I teach, putting more attention to fitness and application of technique rather than performance. This will change the order in which the techniques are taught. It will not change the core lessons. I prefer to work the skills, precision, strategy, and then speed. Olympic sparring is based on weight, strength, speed then accuracy. Olympic sport has higher risk and lower requirements of precision. Point sparring requires higher mental precision, more control and less physical strength. Real defense is based on practical skill and application, not on intellectually learning the tricks or on strength. Its mostly speed and speed of reaction.
In reality you must beat the weight distribution- not match it. You must reflect the technique not memorize it. You must implement your moves before the agresser can react.
So in order for you to use self defense moves, you must execute often enough to allow the body to know just how the techniques works and respond without your brain. Sport competition makes that learning fun. Repetition makes skills useful. and builds our strength and speed. This means lots of repetition. Let's Get Kickin.
Thanks Parents - Sunday, October 25, 2009
I am so grateful to the parents who pitched into help on the Halloween Event. I am proud of our group and how we pull in together and support. This economic time has created stresses on many of us and i enjoy seeing the comradeships and sharing i see in our community of families. Please continue to work together to support our kids and each other and we will all come out ahead because of our connection to each other.
Summer! - Wednesday, May 20, 2009
Summer is here. We usually think this is when our lives can slow down and we can enjoy some leisure time. I find myself busier. Less structured schedules means we can have Special events and projects with our students. We grab the opportunity to have day camps at the school. Super Kamp in the Mountains. our Kickathon, Holiday classes. Day classes for kids who have less to do. Ask at the school and see what is coming up next.

Lone Mountain Letter—
Feb 15st ‘09
HAPPY Valentine’s Day.
Be proud of what you do. Choose action you are proud of.
My topic in this message is Kids and grades. Read this letter and answer me the question and you will have an LMT dollar to show for your efforts. Think about school as your job. You work at your job during the day and spend time at TKD in the evenings. The job must be taken care of first so you have time to play. It’s a great job with room for advancement and recognition for hard work built right in. Everyone is offered the same pay (education) and you have regular job reviews (grades) that tell you how well you are doing. Think of your grades as a job review. If you do your job well, complete your tasks and work diligently, your grades go up, kind of like getting a raise. If you are slacking or lazy or don’t understand your responsibilities your job performance suffers. You don’t complete your assignments. It’s harder to get the answers correct in exams. Your grades go down and you still don’t get fired. Great job security. Here is the question you must answer! What grades do you have now? How do you appear to a stranger? Would you hire you for a job based on your current grades?
When you are starting out in the job market the things employers have to evaluate you with is your high school grades and the way you present yourself for your interview. Employers will take your grades/school accomplishments as an indication of what you will be like as an employee.
In a job- Extra effort, research that helps the company, practicing to know the answers in case you are asked, working hard and efficiently, results in better job performance, Success in your job, and a good reputation. It can lead to a promotion with higher pay. The same effort earns high grades at school.
Poor grades in some subjects and good ones in others indicates to an employer that you can work hard and will choose to work hard at your job if you find the task fun and interesting to you personally. – and beginner labor jobs wont be fun.
Poor grades all around indicate that you either have trouble understanding instructions or are less motivated to follow them than to follow your own wants. You are more interested in yourself than in others. You are not going to work well unless you find the job fun. –and beginner labor jobs wont be fun.
Tardiness indicates You will not show up for work on time. You do not think a job is worthy of your effort to get up and get ready. You think your sleep is more important than being responsible to the man that is paying you his money.
Calling in sick frequently indicates that you have better things to do than support the company that supports you. You are not going to stay in the job long. You are unable/unwilling to sacrifice personal time for job time when there is a choice to be made.
Minimal satisfactory performance in school (c grades) indicates you plan to give the employer what he demands from you. You Can perform what is asked of you and you make no effort to better the company or excel yourself. You will wait in one spot until someone tells you what to do, then do it, and then sit and wait for another instruction. These are the people I will not hire. I would rather hire a person who is struggling to succeed, asking lots of questions, and wasting lots of energy working to learn, than a person who Can succeed and is not putting effort behind his actions.
Good grades indicate an interest to promote yourself through serious work or a good mind that picks up the important points quickly and is able to complete tasks easily.
Great grades indicates someone who will always work till the task is completed to his best ability. This person can be trusted to take on a task and see to its completion. He will not do less than he can at any time. He will be concerned if the project is not up to the employers standards and he will accept the employers standards as his own or improve the product above what is expected of him. He is the one I will Hire.
Students at Lone Mountain are expected to take care of academic school business daily before coming in to train. The disciplines of TKD training help develop discipline in school habits also and we support all efforts a student is making in his life. 80% of our students are in the A/B Honor role by the time they have reached advanced belts. Students who are on the Honor role at their academic school are invited to wear blue pants in training classes. Many TKD students from our school graduate from their high schools with honors and continue on to universities to get bachelors degrees. We want to develop a college scholarship fund through Super Kids Corporate donors that can assist our students in Higher education.
What do you want? Where are you going? What are your goals? How can you get there? When are you taking the next step? What do you see as your next effort?
Our January fundraiser was put off due to many pressing events. We may still do the sales plan later if parents are interested in conducting it. These events are Fun! They also raise money to support the expenses of our Christmas parties, Halloween Safe Night, SUPER CAMP, etc. We also use the proceeds as travel support for students who want to compete in tournaments. The budgets and decisions are voted on by the Parents involved in the Super Kids Club. Meetings are held each awards evening night before the awards ceremony.
The money raised by a student is attributed first to that student’s expenses in a specific event and then contributed to the general expenses of the SUPER KIDS CLUB. We also raise money by asking businesses to donate product or funds toward our Power Of PALS program that sponsors an ongoing support program in the local schools. Super Kids is a federal Non profit organization.
Super Kids Club Parent Meeting Saturday, March 21st, 6:00 pm- To be discussed— Demonstration team, future fundraisers, business sponsorships. Kickathon schedule, Heatwave Tournament.
There was a mini tournament day at AIRFORCE TAEKWONDO Jan 31st We made an outing as a team to their event.
We had lots of fun. Certificates of participation are in the office for those who attended.
There is a Tournament in Albequerque, New Mexico in April 4th. Would you like to take part? If you want to go, we can make it a caravan trip. Financing the travel falls on parents and/or fundraising efforts. Hotel is generally $100 per night we split that to charge $25 per person per night (4 or more in a room) for those wanting to share the rooms. Caravan transport for those not driving themselves is usually $50 per person. Tournament fee is usually around $75
Fundraising efforts go toward reducing the price of accommodations and transportation. (Not to the event registrations) We want to make a road trip to AAU Nationals, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on July 1st-4th, 2009. You need to Qualify for this National competition by competing in a Qualifying tournament in San Francisco or New Mexico between January and May of 2009.
Our Las Vegas Kickoff/Heatwave Tournament is planned for August 2009. TBA This will not be an AAU event and ALL forms are welcome in competition. New Point Rules written for Super Kids will be in effect. Sponsored by Lone Mountain Taekwondo, Super Kids Karate and any businesses that wish to contribute. Sanctioned by USAT.
We encourage business sponsors for our Events. Businesses can make donations to our nonprofit group, Super Kids Karate, Inc, and get both a tax deduction and advertising.

Christmas - Friday, December 5, 2008
AHH, I love the Holidays and I fight against the rush, Rushing rushing everywhere makes my head ache. I am making a concentrated effort to slow down and enjoy this holiday even if everything does not get done. Better organization and prioritizing what is most important will make me happier. and the most important thing is giving thanks for the friends I have. I will make time for everyone and not worry about giving a money gift. I am more valuable as a person to be with than as a sourse of things. I value my friends company not thier stuff. So Come One and Come All and Come Often. No need to bear gifts.
Giving Thanks - Sunday, November 23, 2008
The last month has been tumultuous. Family crisis, national elections, Local economy changes have made me look at my priorities. Who are the most important people in your life? Where are they going and where are you going? Do you want to get there together? Sharing a project can make great togetherness. I am promoting a family project of martial arts where everyone in the family gets involved on the floor, together. I am making it a very good price. Families that kick together stick together. Keep each other fit, relate to each other's struggles by sharing the challenges. In this sport all family members can develop at their own speed, train in thier own class and yet share the trials and successes. Training with my family is how I got started. It is a great journey that leads to unexpected returns. And at this time of thanksgiving I am most thankful for my husband, and my kids who trained and are not training any more.
Let's work together - Monday, October 6, 2008
Ok, so the financial world is in a tumult. We are afraid to step outside because there are so many immoral and unscrupulous characters ready to take us for whatever we have. Now is the time for us to look at what we have and what we want. In the line of what you want and this business-- would you like give your kids better discipline, respect and moral strength to make wise choices? the ability to think about what they see and hear? The ability to read the signs and make smart choices?
Are you willing to work(physically)hard to get these strengths instilled in your kids? NOW is the time to invest in a program where you and your kids work out together, challenge each other to increase your physical strength and mental accuity. Increase your physical stamina, mental strength, moral stability. By signing up for a martial arts class together you commit yourselves to self improvement, not just idle entertainment. You have an opportunity to advance yourself and each other as a team. Work out together. Watch your kids grow in strength and mental discipline. Watch them learn how to protect themselves, care about others, commit to success, and make wise choices. It takes time, effort and commitment. It reaps strong caring disciplined adult kids. PRICELESS!
It's working - Saturday, October 4, 2008
Today is the end (or the Beginning) of a great week. We have moved into our new belt ranks after testing. Several students have already earned 2 stripes. The energy is high. You will love the new forms being added this cycle. there is a newsletter out with all events listed. Plan on the Halloween party coming Oct 30th and invite all your friends. We will be holding a Self defense workshop and classes for nonmembers who are interested in being better aware of what powers they have and can use in a defense crisis. Im excited about how our program is growing.
Continuing comment - Monday, September 15, 2008
A terrrific week last week in spite of my injuring my back. We have 10 new beginners students who joined us this week. Thats a terrific start for the month.
Grappling clinic this Saturday promises to be a lot of fun. These skills will be added into our sparring system for black belts. Testing is only 2 weeks away. make sure you are prepared now and succeed to your next rank on the 26th. Sparring day on the 27th will allow new students to experience tournament style practice and get a medal for your experience.
